Percussion (Battery, Front Ensemble, Concert Percussion, Winter Percussion)
The Percussion Ensemble is a class in which all percussionists at Burlington High School are enrolled. Percussion class curriculum will focus on beginning, intermediate, and advanced percussion techniques on all percussion equipment - drums, mallets, timpani, and auxiliary instruments. Percussion class is open to all students, preferably with previous percussion experience in grades 9-12. All students will be placed as percussionists with either Wind Ensemble or Symphonic Band, as well as participate in the Marching Red Devils.
Students with no percussion experience are eligible for the class provided they obtain director approval through an interview process. Participation in Band Camp prior to the start of the school year is mandatory and attendance at Percussion Spring Training in May is highly encouraged. Students participating in the percussion program are also encouraged to take private lessons, as well as audition for the MMEA Northeastern District Ensemble and participate in MICCA Solo and Ensemble.

Winter Percussion
Winter Percussion is an extracurricular ensemble that meets outside of the regular school day. A typical season for Winter Percussion begins in November with auditions and placements and goes through to the NESBA Winter Percussion Championships held at the beginning of April. Winter Percussion rehearses 1-2 times/week during this time. There is no previous experience required to join Winter Percussion.
