Visual Ensemble is an activity that combines many different performance elements, including:
Much like the Concert and Percussion Ensembles, the group has two distinct performance seasons; Fall – where members participate as the Visual Ensemble in the Marching Red Devils, and Winter Guard – where the group performs as its own entirely separate unit, presenting their show at local events and regional Winter Guard competitions.
To be a member of the Visual Ensemble, students must attend an audition and interview process at the end of the previous school year. Students may also audition for Winter Guard at the conclusion of the Fall Marching Band season. While most color guard students are recruited out of middle school, there are several members who have joined as first year performers throughout high school. Even though previous experience with dance and/or movement is preferred, the most essential characteristics of a successful member are commitment, organization, and persistence.
